A few years back, it started out as an idea sketched on a cocktail napkin.
Now our dream to open a choice ramen bistro has become a reality
in our first location at the Saint Louis Alumni Association.

The namesake of our restaurant refers to premium grade pork from Okinawa,
called Agu. Tonkotsu Ramen, considered by many to be the
“king of ramen,” is at the heart of our menu.

At AGU Ramen Bistro, we pay homage to the art of Japanese noodles
by preparing our broth with choice ingredients, patience and Aloha. Each
pot of broth is made fresh daily with extra love. In order to create our
signature creamy, hearty tonkotsu broth, we must cook hundreds
of pork bones at a rolling boil for an entire day.

Each day, up to 480 pounds of pork bones are slowly boiled at the highest
heat for more than 18 hours. This delivers an enticing rich and flavorful broth, full of
patience and Aloha in every bowl of ramen served.

We use exceptional ingredients in all of our dishes.
Our rich, clear chicken broth is made using organic, cage-free Jidori chicken
raised on a vegetarian diet. Our noodles are made fresh daily
from our special house recipe. Most importantly, as we lovingly craft our
soup specialties and other dishes from scratch,
we add a lot of gaman along with a little extra Aloha!
Our ramen cannot be rushed!

The man with the vision
AGU business owner, Hisashi U. spent his early youth in Okinawa and moved to
Hawaii when he was 13. There, he enrolled in the St. Louis School for Boys in Honolulu.
After graduating from college, he opened a Yakitori-ya and an
Okinawan Izaka-ya restaurant in Southern California. He then opened an additional
Izakaya in Las Vegas before deciding to return to Hawaii to join forces with the
highly successful Gyotaku Restaurant Group to engage in “Ramen Wars Honolulu”!
As AGU comes of age, Hisashi promises to add additional tempting items to the menu.
Ramen aficionados take note—Hisashi has set the bar high for
everything served at his tables, as well as for his staff.
He predicts that AGU is destined to become Honolulu’s best ramen bistro!
